This family is very special and we feel honored that we have been given the opportunity to be part of the rebuilding of their lives. Two years ago this family of seven was asleep in the safety of their home when Christina, the oldest daughter, smelled something strange. She awakened her mother who thought the smell was from the chimney sweep they had employed earlier that day. Christina went back to bed and watched television. The smell was becoming worse, then her television shut off. She went in and awakened her father. He told her the generator would kick on, that it was probably a power outage. Christina again came into her parents room frantic, she couldn't breathe. Her mom grabbed the baby and took Christina outside to get some air while her Dad went to investigate the smell. He found smoke and proceeded in the dark to get every one out of the house, including other kids who were sleeping over. He did not realize he had slashed his leg during the commotion while trying to ensure everyone was out of the house (his five children and the guests.) He tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher until the firemen arrived. No one including the firefighters knew the gravity of the situation. When the family all got outside in only their pajamas on that cold December night, all of the windows blew out. The fire alarms never went off. As it turned out, it was an electrical fire starting in the wall. That is what Christina smelled. Firefighters came from five towns away to help fight the fire. Two were injured as the house started to collapse. The fire burned until 5:00pm the next evening leaving the family with nothing....and everything. What the family learned over the next few weeks and months was that although they had lost all of their possessions, family pictures and their home; they had everything they needed - each other. Christina was honored by the mayor for her bravery and saving her family. Mom had to hold everyone together and keep the family going in the apartment down the road. Dad, who loved the land this home was on, because it was in his family for generations decided to rebuild and boy, did he rebuild! The home was beautiful before, but he wanted to give his children everything he possible could in this new house. A few weeks before completion of this home, we received a call from the client. She found us online and wanted us to do her home. She made the 21/2 hour drive to the showroom and then we went to her home - over 11,000 square feet of heart and soul. The house sits on a farmland setting with a pond in the yard and a golf course and rolling hills in the distance. We have been give the challenge of furnishing the entire home. It is truly an honor to work with such a determined, loving family. They truly understand what is important in life - each other. It was a tremendous challenge to design this home, from the individual personalities upstairs to the grandeur of the open floor plan downstairs. We are always excited when clients get delivery - but for this family it will be an extra celebration - a new beginning. We wish this family many, many years of happiness and good health in this new home. This home should live on many generations. We wish the family peace and comfort. |
